InternetSafety.com Rings the Alarm on Bing.com
Lax Pornographic Content Filtering Causes Concerns for ParentsATLANTA, GA — June 2, 2009 — As concerns grow over the new Bing.com search engine's easy access to adult content, InternetSafety.com, the recognized leader in internet safety solutions, is addressing the issue as part of an awareness campaign for parents. Microsoft's Bing.com offers search capabilities that some critics are calling a "cornucopia of pornography" with results that "literally speak for themselves."
In contrast to Google, Microsoft's new Bing.com search engine gives users the ability to play videos by simply rolling over the various thumbnails, leaving no URL trail for parents to monitor. Perhaps more importantly, Bing.com's video search prompts users to turn off the "safe search" function if the search returns excessive adult content.
"Parents who are manually monitoring their children's internet use should be aware that Bing.com is a potential new portal to adult content," said Aaron Kenny, CTO of InternetSafety.com. "With a few quick clicks, Bing.com can turn from just another search engine to a place where their child can view hours of hardcore pornography, all without ever leaving the website."
With the increasing complexity of the web, manually filtering content has become too time-consuming, making it nearly impossible for parents to undertake. InternetSafety.com's Safe Eyes equips parents and guardians with immediate solutions by automatically blocking pornographic images and videos on Bing.com while disabling links to adult content.
Parents who have Safe Eyes installed on family computers are automatically protected from adult content from Bing.com or any other source because Safe Eyes monitors adult content by default.
"Safe Eyes was designed to handle these sorts of monitoring and blocking problems out-of-the-box years before Bing.com even went live," said Aaron Kenny, CTO of InternetSafety.com. "As a parent, it's important to know that your monitoring platform is ready to handle new sites that may pose a threat to your child."
As part of "National Internet Safety Month," InternetSafety.com is helping educate parents and others about online threats as well as giving advice on how to deal with them. Over the month of June, InternetSafety.com will be posting tips to its blog (http://blog.internetsafety.com), Twitter account, and Facebook pages. Through the education campaign, the company hopes to help make the web a safer place for everyone.
