InternetSafety.com CEO to Testify at Federal Hearing on Online Child Safety
ATLANTA (November 3, 2009) – Forrest Collier, CEO of InternetSafety.com, will be participating in a federal hearing in Washington, D.C. today as part of an all-day meeting by the Online Safety and Technology Working Group established under the auspices of the Federal Trade Commission to promote a safe Internet for children. The topic of the meeting is “Parental Controls, Child Protection Technologies and Content Rating Methods.”
Collier was invited to speak on a panel addressing the topic “Network-Based and Independent- Provided Online Safety Tools” on the basis of InternetSafety.com’s highly regarded Safe Eyes series of software products for family Internet management. Other participants on the panel include Internet safety advocates, policy developers and public affairs directors from AOL, RuleSpace, Symantec, CTIA-The Wireless Association, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, ThinkAtomic and USTelecom.
The Online Safety and Technology Working Group was created in 2008 under the "Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act." Participants, including federal agencies, are charged with evaluating industry efforts and making recommendations to promote online safety for children through education, labeling and parental control technology. The Working Group is also tasked with evaluating and making recommendations on industry efforts to prevent and respond to criminal activity involving children and the Internet.
The group’s findings will be compiled in a report to Congress and the Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information, along with recommendations on improving online safety measures. More information is available at http://www.ntia.doc.gov/advisory/onlinesafety/.
