Safe Eyes Internet Filtering Software Earns ‘Compatible with Windows 7’ Logo, Ensuring Child-Safe Web Browsing for Upgraded PCs
Other Filters Fail to Block Inappropriate Web Content with New Windows Browser
ATLANTA (November 3, 2009) – InternetSafety.com announced today that its Safe Eyes family filtering software is among the first parental control products to earn the “Compatible with Windows 7” Logo from Microsoft Corp. The certification ensures that the software is able to block access to objectionable websites for upgraded or new Windows 7 computers utilizing both 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows Internet Explorer. Most content filters will not filter the 64-bit edition of Microsoft’s browser even if they are successfully installed on a Windows 7 machine, leaving children vulnerable to pornography and other inappropriate content.
To ensure that children are protected, InternetSafety.com is offering a 30% discount off the regular $49.95 Safe Eyes subscription price to consumers who purchase Safe Eyes to replace filters that are not compatible with Windows 7. The offer can be redeemed at www.internetsafety.com/switch.
In addition to Windows 7, Safe Eyes works with Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit editions) and Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) or Tiger (10.4.10 or later).
"64-bit computing is entering the mainstream, and many parents may be buying 64-bit computers without realizing it. Unfortunately, most parental control software is still only 32-bit compatible, so it doesn’t work with the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer,” said InternetSafety.com CTO Aaron Kenny. “Parents need to choose filtering software that carries the ‘Compatible with Windows 7’ logo to be sure that their filter does the website blocking it’s supposed to do.”
The Microsoft “Compatible with Windows 7” logo indicates that a product has passed Microsoft-designed tests for compatibility and reliability with its newest operating system.
Safe Eyes automatically blocks objectionable websites in a choice of 35 categories – from pornography, sex and nudity to alcohol, drugs, gambling and violence - as well as by user-defined URLs and/or keywords. It also provides instant messaging controls, time limits, email blocking and social network monitoring to help parents protect their children online. It works with multiple Internet browsers including Firefox, Windows Internet Explorer and Safari. A single annual subscription to Safe Eyes covers up to three Mac and/or PC computers with the ability to customize settings for each child and enforce them on any machine.
The company also offers Safe Eyes Mobile, the first filtering-enabled Internet browser for the Apple iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch. It blocks inappropriate pages while giving users full access to the rest of the Web. Safe Eyes Mobile works just like the built-in iPhone browser with pinch and tap zoom, bookmarks and built-in Google search, and has no noticeable effect on iPhone performance. It costs $19.99 per phone at the iPhone App Store.
